Too many Veterans who once served our nation now find themselves surviving in places not meant for human habitation- under bridges, in parked cars, or hidden in encampments. They deserve more than survival. They deserve stability, safety, and a dignified homecoming.

To help make that vision a reality, the VA has launched, “Getting Veterans Off the Streets”, a nationwide initiative designed to reach and house Veterans experiencing unsheltered homelessness. Between now and September 30, 2025, every VA medical center will host targeted outreach events to connect Veterans to housing and supportive services.

Why This Matters Now

According to HUD’s 2024 Point-in-Time Count, 13,851 Veterans remain unsheltered in the U.S.- a number that , while lower than previous years, is still unacceptable. Those living outdoors face extreme barriers to care, lack access to medications and hygiene, and are at higher risk for infection and injury.

This new initiative builds on pilot programs-like the Denver project that reduced Veteran street homelessness by nearly 40%-and expands that model nationwide

No Wrong Door: A Veteran- Centered Approach

Every Veteran’s path is different. Some may need immediate emergency housing; others may need help replacing lost documents or connecting with benefits. The goal is simple; no Veteran should face homelessness alone.

The VA’s message is clear-“You’re not alone.” From the first warm bed to permanent housing, every step matters.

At Dignified Living Community LLC, we stand ready to support this mission. We provide non-medical supportive housing for Veterans across Henderson and Las Vegas- offering structure, safety, and community for those ready to rebuild.

If you or someone you know is a Veteran experiencing homelessness, call the National Call Center for Homeless Veterans at 877-424-3838. Or visit the VA Homeless Programs website to learn more about housing and reentry initiatives.
